Romania (Interrail Countries)

Romania is situated at the crossroads connecting the East, the West and the South of Europe. The country benefits from three geographical elements of great interest: the Carpathians, the Danube and the Black Sea. Romania has a natural high tourist potential, comprising 422 nature reserves (most varied), 2 scientific points of interest reserves, 8 sightseeing reserves, and 31 natural monuments. From the capital, Bucharest, you can travel by train towards the most picturesque areas.

Country characteristics

Romania offers a rich tapestry of tourist attractions and vacation experiences unique in Central-Eastern Europe:

  • medieval towns in Transylvania;
  • the world-famous Painted Monasteries in Bucovina;
  • traditional villages in Maramures, the magnificent architecture of Bucharest;
  • the romantic Danube Delta, fairy-tale castles;
  • the Black Sea resorts;
  • the majestic Carpathian Mountains
  • spas and much more.

Scenery
One third of the country's surface is made by the Carpathian Mountains: mild slopes, passes and straits, caverns - over 12,000 of such underground wonders - glacier lakes, megaliths, forests. The plains and meadows are also present, along with romantic watercourses. The Danube is giving here its last and greatest performance: before flowing into the Black Sea, "the European river king" is divided, after having crossed 1,075 km of the south-western part of the country, in three branches, which form the exotic lacustrian empire of one of the most beautiful deltas in the world. Finally, 245 km of coast make us experience not only the charm of holidays spent in the Romanian resorts on the Black Sea coast, but also the meeting with the exceptional vestiges of Greek - Roman antiquity.

Climate
Romania is a country of four seasons. The moderate - continental climate brings winters full of snow in the Carpathians, summers of almost 2.300 sunny hours on the Black Sea coast. Romania is a country having the privilege to hold a third of the geothermal water reserves of Europe. Over 400 mineral sources are collected and processed, over 160 sea resorts benefiting from valuable landscapes, therapeutic lakes, mofettes, mud - all of them representing a magnificent reserve of natural remedies.
